Both Ring Video Doorbell 3 and Ring Video Doorbell 4 send notifications to your phone, tablet, and PC when anyone presses your doorbell or triggers the built-in motion sensors. When you answer the notification, you can see, hear, and speak to visitors from anywhere. Both battery-powered doorbells also have Advanced Motion Detection with Customizable Motion Zones, Quick Replies that help you answer the door when you’re busy, and customizable privacy settings.
The main difference is that Ring Video Doorbell 4 includes our Pre-Roll feature which allows you to see up to 4 additional seconds of color video before the motion event was even triggered – a first-to-market feature for battery-powered doorbells and unique exclusively to Ring. Ring Video Doorbell 4 also has improved performance from Ring Video Doorbell 3, including improved motion detection and night vision.
The main difference is the improvement in the Pre-Roll feature from Video Doorbell 3 Plus to Video Doorbell 4. The Pre-Roll video previews on Video Doorbell 4 are in color (vs black & white for Video Doorbell 3 Plus), higher quality video, and have improved functionality at nighttime. Ring Video Doorbell 4 also has improved battery life and performance from Ring Video Doorbell 3 Plus. Battery life will vary based on device settings, use, and environmental factors.
If you have a Ring subscription, motion event videos captured by your Video Doorbell will be saved to your Ring account for up to 180 days. You can manage your video storage time through the Control Centre. Photos captured will be saved to your Ring account for up to 7 days, so you can review them at any time. More information about video storage can be found here. Without a subscription, you can view real-time video for Ring Video Doorbells and Security Cameras and answer doorbell notifications as they happen, but your videos and photos will not be saved.
